In a bold demonstration of people-centered leadership and grassroots transformation, the Executive Chairman of Awgu Local Government Area, Hon. Uchenna Joseph Okolo, has expanded his flagship “Portable Water for All” initiative with the commencement of two new borehole drilling projects in quick succession, pushing his administration closer to its ambitious target of 25 boreholes across the LGA.

On Sunday, 24th August 2025, drilling works officially commenced at Ndiulo Imeama, Ekpulato Autonomous Community, Mgbowo Ward, bringing renewed hope to residents long plagued by water scarcity. Barely 24 hours later, on Monday, 25th August 2025, Hon. Okolo flagged off another borehole drilling project at Obuofia, Awgu Ward II, marking the 15th borehole so far delivered under the scheme.

Hon. Okolo explained that the initiative is designed to provide sustainable access to clean, safe, and reliable water to every household in Awgu, in line with Governor Peter Mbah’s inclusive development agenda for Enugu State.

“Clean and safe water should never be a privilege but a basic right for every household,” Hon. Okolo declared. “These projects are a clear demonstration of our resolve to complement Governor Peter Mbah’s developmental agenda and to make Awgu LGA a model of rural infrastructural transformation.”

Since inception, the “Portable Water for All” project has delivered 14 solar-powered boreholes across multiple communities, directly impacting thousands of households. The launch of Ndiulo Imeama and Obuofia projects pushes the tally to 15 completed boreholes, underscoring Hon. Okolo’s determination to fulfill his promise of delivering 25 boreholes across Awgu.

The Obuofia borehole, in particular, has been hailed as a milestone for the community. Residents and stakeholders described the project as life-changing, with significant potential to improve sanitation, reduce health risks, and strengthen social well-being.

The water projects come on the heels of another major infrastructural undertaking: the flag-off of the 3.5-kilometer Awgu–Ugwueme Road Project, which is expected to boost connectivity, expand economic opportunities, and improve access to the Ugwueme Smart Green School — one of the LGA’s leading educational hubs.

From Ndiulo Imeama to Obuofia, community leaders and residents alike have applauded Hon. Okolo’s result-driven approach, describing his administration as inclusive, transparent, and transformative.

With these milestones, Hon. Okolo is not only addressing the immediate needs of Awgu people but also setting a new benchmark for grassroots governance in Enugu State. His projects, spanning water, roads, and social infrastructure, reflect a broader vision of sustainable development and align seamlessly with Governor Mbah’s agenda of building a prosperous, progressive, and inclusive state.

Tomorrow is Here.
