SENATOR OSITA NGWU, HON. ENGR. ANAYO ONWUEGBU TAKE AUGUST MEETING SUPPORT TO WOMEN ACROSS THE CATHOLIC PARISHES IN AWGU DIOCESE

The Senator representing Enugu West Senatorial District, Senator Osita Ngwu, and the Member representing Aninri, Awgu and Oji-River Federal Constituency, Hon. Engr. Anayo Onwuegbu FNSE, have reaffirmed their commitment to women empowerment, grassroots development and community advancement by extending special August Meeting support to women across Catholic parishes in Awgu Diocese.

The outreach, which held on Friday, August 14, and Saturday, August 15, 2026, covered women’s groups and Christian Mothers across Catholic parishes in Awgu Diocese. The initiative was designed to identify with, encourage and support the women during the annual August Meeting celebration, a longstanding tradition that brings women together not only for social interaction and reunion, but also for community development, family strengthening and collective progress.

During the two-day outreach, representatives of Senator Ngwu and Hon. Engr. Onwuegbu visited Christian Mothers and women’s groups in various Catholic parishes across Awgu Diocese, conveying the goodwill of the two legislators and presenting financial support to assist the women with their August Meeting activities and community-oriented initiatives.

The outreach highlighted the important role played by Catholic women, particularly the Christian Mothers, in the social, spiritual and developmental life of their communities. Through the annual August Meeting, the women provide a platform for mobilising resources for community projects, supporting widows and vulnerable families, promoting education and healthcare, strengthening peace and unity, encouraging youth development, preserving cultural values and contributing to the overall wellbeing of their communities.

Representing the two legislators during the parish-to-parish outreach were a team of their aides and delegates, including Hon. Solomon Ojoukwu, Special Adviser on Mobilization to Senator Osita Ngwu; Hon. Mrs. Nwafor Onyekachi Maryann, SSA on Women Resources and Empowerment to Hon. Engr. Anayo Onwuegbu; Hon. Rosemary Chukwu, Awgu Woman Leader for Hon. Engr. Anayo Onwuegbu; Hon. Chukwu Donatus Onyedikachi, Chieftaincy, Culture and Stakeholders Engagement, Awgu LGA, to Senator Osita Ngwu; Hon. Ifeanyichukwu Chukwu, Liaison Officer, Awgu, to Hon. Engr. Anayo Onwuegbu; and Hon. Comr. Okpara A. Obinna, Media Aide to Hon. Engr. Anayo Onwuegbu, alongside other aides.

At the various Catholic parishes visited, the delegates commended the Christian Mothers for their steadfast prayers, commitment to their families, dedication to their communities and continued support for responsible leadership.

They urged the women to sustain their prayers and support for His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, Executive Governor of Enugu State; Senator Osita Ngwu; Hon. Engr. Anayo Onwuegbu; and other leaders working to advance the interests and wellbeing of the people.

The delegates further noted that women, particularly organised Catholic women, remain indispensable partners in grassroots development through their contributions to education, healthcare, peacebuilding, family development, youth empowerment and community projects.

Responding, the women leaders and representatives of the Christian Mothers expressed profound appreciation to Senator Osita Ngwu and Hon. Engr. Anayo Onwuegbu for remembering and identifying with them across the Catholic parishes during the August Meeting season.

They commended Governor Peter Mbah, Senator Osita Ngwu and Hon. Engr. Anayo Onwuegbu for what they described as visible achievements and improved leadership in education, infrastructure, healthcare, women empowerment, youth development and other critical sectors.

The women also applauded the accessibility and grassroots approach of the two legislators, saying the parish-to-parish outreach and financial assistance had made them feel valued, recognised and connected to their representatives.

They pledged to continue supporting and praying for the leaders, while assuring them of their strong mobilisation and support ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The outreach across the Catholic parishes in Awgu Diocese was received with excitement, appreciation and a strong sense of belonging by the women, who described the gesture as a demonstration of inclusive and people-oriented representation.

The August Meeting support, therefore, goes beyond a financial gesture. It represents a renewed partnership between the elected representatives and Catholic women at the grassroots, reaffirming the commitment of Senator Osita Ngwu and Hon. Engr. Anayo Onwuegbu to women empowerment, inclusive representation, community development and people-oriented leadership across Awgu Diocese.
