Team Enugu will battle for honours in 10 sporting events, cutting across both male and female categories. These include athletics, boxing, wrestling, judo, taekwondo, table tennis, tennis, weightlifting, and karate. In football, however, only the male team will represent the state.

Firing up the contingent before departure, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Barr. Lloyd Ikechukwu Ekweremadu, urged the athletes to believe in their abilities, stressing that the state has complete confidence in their capacity to excel and bring home medals.

“We trust in your abilities to perform well and to return with laurels for Enugu State,” Ekweremadu declared, while expressing gratitude to Governor Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for approving the state’s participation. He charged the team to justify the government’s support by making Enugu proud.

The athletes, bubbling with enthusiasm, echoed the commissioner’s optimism. One of them, Pascal Iyioke Jnr., assured that Team Enugu was fully prepared for the challenge ahead. “We will do the state proud as we fight for honours,” he vowed, while thanking Governor Mbah for his support and the Commissioner for providing the platform to showcase their talent.

As the contingent sets its sights on Asaba, excitement reverberates across Enugu State, with high hopes that these young champions will return home decorated with medals and inscribe another golden chapter in the state’s sports history.
