A Landmark Month for Awgu
August 2025 marked a significant chapter in the transformation journey of Awgu Local Government Area. Under the dynamic leadership of Hon. Uche Okolo, Executive Chairman, the council rolled out far-reaching projects and people-oriented programs that touched every sector of grassroots development.
In alignment with the inclusive growth agenda of His Excellency, Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, these achievements reaffirm Awgu’s rising profile as a model of visionary governance in Enugu State.

Road Infrastructure: Opening Pathways to Progress
Road connectivity remained a top priority in August, with strategic projects designed to stimulate commerce, improve mobility, and expand rural opportunities:
4km Agbogugu Road Project — construction in progress to open new economic corridors.
One Ward, One Kilometer Road Project — 11 access roads underway, one per ward, strengthening local economies.
3.5km Awgu–Ugwueme Road Project — flagged off on August 23, 2025, set to drive trade and agricultural growth.
Smart Green School Access Roads — rehabilitation of feeder roads to schools, ensuring safe and reliable passage for pupils and teachers.

Modernizing Governance: Secretariat & Office Complex Upgrade
To foster efficiency and a dignified work environment, Hon. Okolo initiated a comprehensive upgrade of the Awgu Council Secretariat and Chairman’s Office Complex. Landscaping, beautification, and structural improvements are repositioning the council headquarters as a modern hub for governance.

Clean Water for All: Expanding the Borehole Network
Water access witnessed remarkable expansion in August, with four additional communities — Mgbowo, Obuofia Awgu, Nenwenta, and Mgbidi — benefiting from the Awgu Water-for-All Initiative.
This brings the tally to 18 out of the planned 25 solar-powered boreholes now completed.
“Clean water is not a privilege but a right. Our pledge is to ensure no ward, no village, and no family in Awgu is left behind.”
— Hon. Uche Okolo, Executive Chairman

Empowering Women: Celebrating August Meetings
This year’s August Meetings went beyond tradition to serve as platforms for empowerment. Hon. Okolo personally engaged 16 communities, extending financial and institutional support:
₦1,000,000 donation at Agbogugu Women’s August Meeting.
Renewed commitments to deliver women-centered projects.
Financial and material backing for community associations.
These gestures underscored the council’s recognition of women as indispensable partners in sustainable development.

Youth Economic Empowerment: 700+ Motorcyclists Supported ️
Over 700 commercial motorcyclists were empowered through financial and logistical support to enhance services, improve livelihoods, and strengthen grassroots transportation. This intervention reinforced the Chairman’s commitment to youth inclusion and economic independence.

Chairman’s Reflections

“Our mission is clear — to implement impactful projects that improve lives, widen opportunities, and unite our communities. Working hand in hand with His Excellency Governor Peter Mbah, we are redefining inclusive development for Ndi Awgu.”
