The initiative, spearheaded by the Enugu SME Center and the Office of Digital Economy, aligns with the inclusive governance vision of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, aimed at equipping public servants with the skills required to thrive in a 21st-century digital economy.

According to the organisers, the programme has so far recorded remarkable achievements, with over 5,000 civil servants and 10,000 teachers trained across various cohorts. The just-concluded Batch 4 featured more than 600 participants, including Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), who received inclusive, hands-on training in Microsoft Office tools, cloud-based collaboration platforms, and real-time data management systems.

Driving Nigeria’s Digital Transformation

The Enugu initiative comes at a critical time for Nigeria’s public sector. National data shows that less than 5 per cent of Nigerian civil servants possess advanced digital skills, while over 70 per cent of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) still depend heavily on manual processes. To reverse this trend, the Federal Government has set a target of achieving 95 per cent digital literacy by 2030, with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) aiming to train 10 million Nigerians and 69,000 federal staff annually.

Setting the Pace

By prioritising digital inclusion, Enugu State is not merely aligning with these national goals but leading the charge. Through the combined efforts of the Enugu SME Center and the Office of Digital Economy, the state is creating an agile, tech-enabled civil service where every citizen, regardless of ability, can participate fully in governance and service delivery.

Officials described the programme as a practical demonstration of the government’s commitment to capacity building, smart governance, and disability inclusion, reinforcing Governor Mbah’s promise of a government that works for everyone.

With Batch 4 successfully completed, the Enugu State Government says it remains committed to sustaining the momentum, expanding access, and ensuring that digital inclusion becomes a reality across all levels of the state’s civil service.
