The initiative, driven by the Enugu SME Center / Office of Digital Economy (Enugu SME & Startup Agency) in partnership with the Enugu Local Government Service Commission under the leadership of Barr. Nana Ogbodo, aims to equip LGA secretariat staff with essential digital skills for smarter, more responsive, and technology-driven governance.

Speaking on the development, the Special Adviser to the Governor on MSMEs and Digital Economy and Director General of the Enugu SME Center, Hon. Arinze Chilo-Offiah, emphasized that the program aligns with Governor Mbah’s vision of building a digitally empowered civil service capable of supporting the state’s transformation agenda. He noted that the program, which had previously focused on ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) at the state level, is now being decentralized to reach every LGA secretariat.

According to him, the goal is to create a “future-ready workforce” that can leverage technology to deliver efficient public services, promote data-driven decision-making, and foster inclusive economic growth at the grassroots level.

On his part, Barr. Nana Ogbodo, Chairman of the Enugu Local Government Service Commission, commended the initiative, describing it as a transformative step toward modernizing public administration in the state. He assured full cooperation from the commission to ensure that all local government staff benefit from the training.

The Digital Literacy Program forms part of the broader Smart Governance and Civil Service Reform Agenda of the Mbah administration, which seeks to reposition Enugu as a hub for innovation, productivity, and digital transformation.

With this expansion, Enugu State is set to bridge the digital divide across its local governments, ensuring that every civil servant — from the Lion Building to the remotest communities — becomes an active participant in the state’s digital future.
