Nigeria secured the coveted trophy after a tense 1–1 draw and a dramatic 4–2 victory in the ensuing penalty shootout against host nation Ghana at the Madina Zongo pitch. Notably, six players from the Enugu Rangers Youth Academy, alongside their coach, formed the nucleus of the victorious Nigeria-selected squad, a powerful endorsement of the quality, technical excellence and discipline being instilled in the academy’s emerging talents. This achievement underscores the growing influence of Rangers’ youth system on the national stage and highlights the club’s deliberate strategy of nurturing homegrown players capable of competing at the highest levels of African football.

The continental success is widely seen as a reflection of the transformative vision of His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, Governor of Enugu State, whose consistent support for Rangers International FC and its youth development framework has helped reposition Enugu as a rising powerhouse in African football development. Under Governor Mbah’s leadership, sustained investments in sports infrastructure, youth-focused programmes, player welfare and professional coaching have created an enabling environment where young footballers are encouraged to dream boldly, train purposefully and compete confidently on international platforms.

As the Rangers U19 team prepares for an upcoming tour of the United Kingdom, the victory in Ghana provides both momentum and a compelling statement of intent, reinforcing the message that Enugu is producing world-class talent ready for global exposure. The UK tour is expected to further refine the players’ skills, broaden their professional outlook and offer a valuable platform to showcase Enugu and Nigeria’s football potential to international clubs and scouts.

The milestone also reflects the progressive leadership of the Rangers International FC management, led by FIFA Master Alumnus Amobi Ezeaku. His modern, data-driven approach to football governance and firm commitment to global best practices continue to redefine football administration in Nigeria. Under his stewardship, the club has strengthened its youth development pathway, established sustainable institutional structures and positioned Rangers as a benchmark for football academies across Africa.
From Enugu to Accra and soon to the United Kingdom, the Rangers U19 team exemplifies resilience, ambition and the enduring spirit of the Flying Antelopes, reinforcing Enugu’s growing stature on the African and global football map.
