President Tinubu Presents ₦58.18 Trillion 2026 Budget to Joint Session of National Assembly

The proposed ₦58.18 trillion budget, themed “Budget of Consolidation, Renewed Resilience, and Shared Prosperity,” signals a shift from economic adjustment to disciplined growth. It is anchored on macroeconomic stability, job creation, human capital development, and strengthened social protection.


Key sectoral priorities outlined in the proposal include Security, Infrastructure, Education, and Health, reflecting the administration’s focus on national stability, productivity, and inclusive development.


In his address, President Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strict budget execution, directing that implementation must fully comply with legislative appropriations and established timelines to ensure efficiency and accountability.


Responding, the leadership of the National Assembly underscored the importance of sustained Executive–Legislative collaboration in delivering tangible outcomes for Nigerians. President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio, GCON, urged stakeholders to prioritise national responsibility over cynicism, while Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, PhD, GCON, declared that 2026 must be a year of fulfilment. He pledged rigorous, patriotic scrutiny of the bill to guarantee value for every naira appropriated.


Both chambers of the National Assembly are expected to commence legislative consideration of the 2026 Appropriation Bill in the coming days, in line with the commitment to accountable governance and national development.
