In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Obinna A. Okpara, the lawmaker’s office described the claims ranging from financial impropriety to abuse of office as “false, malicious, and entirely without foundation,” noting that the response became necessary to prevent the spread of misinformation among the public.

Addressing claims regarding political sponsorship, the statement maintained that Onwuegbu played a significant and verifiable role in Onyeagba’s emergence as council chairman. It, however, accused the former chairman of lacking political capacity, citing his inability to secure party nominations for preferred candidates and failure to deliver electoral victories in the 2023 general elections, including in his own polling unit.

The office also dismissed allegations that the lawmaker collected ₦400 million and ₦300 million from contractors, describing them as baseless. It clarified that members of the National Assembly do not award contracts, explaining that constituency projects are executed through Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in line with statutory procurement processes. Onyeagba was challenged to provide credible evidence to support the claims.

On the issue of constituency projects, the statement rejected assertions that funds had been diverted or projects “sold,” noting that the constituency had secured appropriations totaling ₦3.889 billion between 2024 and 2026, with an additional ₦6.7 billion facilitated through legislative advocacy in the 2025/2026 budget cycle. It emphasized that these figures are verifiable in public budget records.

Responding to a claim involving the alleged sale of a Mercedes ML vehicle, the office stated that Onwuegbu merely referred the vehicle owner to a licensed clearing agent and was never involved in its clearance or disposal. It added that the vehicle had accumulated demurrage exceeding its value, leading to advice against clearing it.

The statement also refuted allegations surrounding a land transaction, describing claims of a ₦30 million loan as “fictitious.” It explained that the transaction was a straightforward purchase in which Onyeagba paid for one plot of land out of an intended two, with an option of refund offered in good faith following subsequent complaints.

Similarly, allegations of a ₦500 million loan were denied, with the office stating that no such financial arrangement existed. It explained that Onyeagba had sought funding for a proposed trailer park project in Abuja, which was declined after due consideration.

On infrastructure, the office insisted that the lawmaker has remained actively engaged in addressing key road projects and healthcare interventions within the constituency, including ongoing rehabilitation works at Achi Joint Hospital.

Concluding, the statement described Onyeagba’s allegations as part of a pattern of misinformation and accused him of engaging in blackmail through repeated voice note campaigns targeting public officials. It urged the public to disregard the claims and called on the former chairman to present any credible evidence to appropriate legal authorities.

The lawmaker reaffirmed his commitment to effective representation and sustainable development, stating that his focus remains on delivering democratic dividends to his constituents.
