
The Enugu State Police Command has strongly refuted reports circulating on social media alleging that armed herdsmen attacked a school in Ezeagu Local Government Area of the state, describing the claim as entirely false, misleading, and capable of causing unnecessary panic among residents.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!In a statement issued on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, said extensive security assessments, intelligence gathering, operational checks, and discreet investigations conducted by the Command found no evidence of any attack on a school in Ezeagu or any other part of Enugu State.
According to the Command, the viral report was a deliberate fabrication designed to spread fear and misinformation among members of the public, particularly school administrators, teachers, students, pupils, and parents.
“The Command categorically states that no such attack occurred in any school within Ezeagu Local Government Area or elsewhere in Enugu State,” the statement emphasized.
The police expressed concern over the increasing trend of spreading unverified information capable of undermining public confidence and disrupting peace and security in the state.
In response, the Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has directed the Command’s Tactical and Intelligence Units to intensify efforts to identify, apprehend, and prosecute those responsible for originating and disseminating the false report.
The Commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property while ensuring the continued safety of schools and communities across Enugu State.
He urged residents to disregard the report, remain calm, and continue their lawful activities without fear. CP Giwa also encouraged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons, movements, or activities to the nearest police station or other security agencies.
The Command reiterated that maintaining public safety requires responsible information sharing and warned against the dissemination of unverified reports capable of causing public alarm.
