Enugu Youth Stakeholders Pass Vote of Confidence on Gov. Mbah, Commend Appointment of Hon. Charles Edeh

Youth leaders and stakeholders from the seventeen (17) Local Government Areas and the three Senatorial Districts of Enugu State have unanimously passed a vote of confidence on Governor Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, commended his appointment of Hon. Charles Nnaemeka Edeh as Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Development and Mobilization, and adopted a broad range of resolutions aimed at strengthening youth development, economic empowerment and participatory governance across the state.

The resolutions were reached during the Enugu State Youth Stakeholders’ Interactive Session, convened by the Office of the Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Development and Mobilization on Tuesday at the Conference Hall of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, State Secretariat, Enugu.

The interactive session brought together youth leaders, government officials, traditional rulers, youth organizations, development partners and other critical stakeholders to deliberate on issues affecting young people, including governance, entrepreneurship, agriculture, innovation, sports development and strategies for strengthening collaboration between government and youths.

The meeting commenced with an opening prayer led by the Chairman of the Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Enugu State, Mr. Ani Samuel Chekwube, while the traditional breaking of the kola nut was performed by the President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Enugu State, High Chief Uche Obosi (Agbalanze).

In his welcome address, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Development and Mobilization, Hon. Charles Nnaemeka Edeh, expressed profound gratitude to Governor Peter Mbah for the confidence reposed in him through his appointment.

He described the interactive session as a strategic platform for needs assessment, stakeholder engagement and policy dialogue designed to identify the aspirations, challenges and expectations of young people across Enugu State.

Hon. Edeh noted that meaningful youth engagement remains central to the Mbah administration’s vision of inclusive governance and sustainable development, adding that the forum would strengthen collaboration between government and youth stakeholders while generating practical recommendations for improved policy implementation.

Delivering his address, the Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Lloyd Ikechukwu Ekweremadu, JM, highlighted the remarkable achievements of Governor Peter Mbah’s administration in youth development, infrastructure renewal and economic transformation.

He listed major flagship projects of the administration to include Enugu Air, Type-2 Primary Healthcare Centres, Smart Green Schools, the International Palm Produce Project, the Niger Gas initiative, as well as investment-friendly policies that have continued to attract both local and foreign investors into Enugu State.

According to the Commissioner, over 700 youths have benefited from agricultural training programmes implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture.

He further disclosed that the Ministry, in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, established a Creative Academy at the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), where youths are receiving training in Artificial Intelligence (AI), animation, gaming, digital content creation and other creative technologies.

He also revealed that under the Tomorrow Is Here Initiative, vocational training programmes were conducted across the seventeen Local Government Areas, with approximately 2,100 youths trained in different vocational skills, while 1,020 outstanding participants received start-up support after performance-based assessments to establish sustainable businesses.

Speaking on behalf of the South East Development Commission (SEDC), the Commission’s Liaison Officer, Hon. Edeani M. Edeani, urged young people to actively engage with the Commission in order to benefit from intervention programmes in agriculture, community development and enterprise support.

He stressed the need for institutional collaboration, adherence to due process and strategic partnerships in driving sustainable development throughout the South-East region.

Delivering a goodwill message, the Igwe-Elect of Mburubu and Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of First Choice Afro Villa Ltd. and Mburubu Construction Company, Engr. Jerry Patrick Onuokaibe, commended Governor Peter Mbah for creating an enabling business environment that has encouraged indigenous investments in Enugu State.

He announced a โ‚ฆ10 million sponsorship for a youth football competition aimed at promoting talent discovery and youth development and disclosed that his company became the first indigenous firm to partner with the Smart Green Schools initiative.

He also called for stronger collaboration, unity and synergy among youth organizations across the state.

Also speaking, Okoh Emmanuel Onyeka (Okwuluora Ndi Igbo) applauded the pace of infrastructural and economic transformation under Governor Mbah’s leadership and urged young people to remain united and continue supporting policies that will guarantee sustainable development and prosperity for the state.

Following extensive deliberations, participants adopted far-reaching resolutions to deepen youth inclusion in governance and accelerate development across Enugu State.

Among the resolutions adopted were the expansion of youth engagement platforms to strengthen grassroots participation, promotion of youth participation in agriculture through cluster farming and cooperative initiatives, institutionalization of periodic youth stakeholders’ interactive sessions, stronger collaboration between the State Government, members of the National Assembly and the Enugu State House of Assembly for community development, increased youth appointments into government, intensified grassroots mobilization, creation of a more enabling environment for private-sector investment and job creation, revitalization of female football, review of housing policies to improve access to affordable housing, strengthened support for youth agricultural associations, accelerated infrastructure development in underserved communities and institutional reforms to strengthen youth development administration.

The meeting climaxed with the unanimous adoption of a Vote of Confidence on Governor Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, with participants citing his transformational leadership, commitment to youth empowerment, infrastructure development, economic reforms and good governance as reasons for their endorsement of his administration’s performance.

The motion was moved by Amb. Nwamazioshi Joseph Daniel, Special Senior Assistant on Media and Communication to the Executive Chairman of Aninri Local Government Area, and seconded by the Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Enugu State Chapter, Comrade Bartholomew Ebuka Okoh.

The stakeholders equally applauded Governor Mbah for appointing Hon. Charles Nnaemeka Edeh as Special Assistant on Youth Development and Mobilization, describing the appointment as a clear demonstration of the Governor’s confidence in the capacity of young people to contribute meaningfully to governance and policy implementation.

The meeting concluded with participants reaffirming their commitment to sustaining strategic engagement with the Enugu State Government and working collectively towards advancing the administration’s Tomorrow Is Here agenda through youth participation, innovation, entrepreneurship and inclusive development across the state.
