The inspection, which took place on Saturday, July 11, 2026, focused on evaluating the readiness of the multi-million-naira power infrastructure and identifying the final requirements before it is commissioned.

The verdict was encouraging: the substation is fully completed and capable of delivering 96 megawatts (MW) of electricity, enough to significantly improve power supply to the fast-growing 9th Mile Industrial Hub and several surrounding communities.

However, one critical hurdle remains. The transmission line linking the facility to the New Haven 330/132kV Transmission Substation is yet to be completed. Until that connection is established, the substation cannot begin supplying electricity to consumers.

Determined to ensure the project does not become another abandoned infrastructure, Senator Ngwu pledged to continue engaging the relevant authorities to facilitate the completion of the outstanding transmission link, stressing that reliable electricity remains a catalyst for industrial growth, job creation, business expansion, and improved living standards.

“This project represents more than just electrical infrastructure, it is a strategic investment in the economic future of Enugu West. Once operational, it will provide the stable power needed to drive industries, attract investment, and improve the quality of life for thousands of residents,” the Senator emphasized.

Accompanying Senator Ngwu on the inspection were the Executive Chairman of Udi Local Government Area, Engr. Hyginus Agu; Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of the Enugu State Rural Electrification Board, Engr. Christopher Ezeoha; Assistant General Manager (Transmission), Engr. Jude Madu, representing the General Manager (Transmission), Engr. (Dr.) Thomas Inugoonum; Principal Manager, Public Relations, Mrs. Mary Udom Philips; and Acting Principal Manager (Transmission), Engr. Peter Ibeanusi, all of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

The inspection underscores Senator Osita Ngwu’s continued focus on delivering impactful infrastructure that supports economic transformation across Enugu West. With the substation now awaiting only its final grid connection, residents and businesses are optimistic that a new era of improved electricity supply is on the horizon.
