Eka Okuku 2026: Igwe John Azubuike Ibe Urges Unity, Vigilance, Communal Responsibility as Mgbowo Marks Ikeji Festival

The Traditional Ruler of Ekpulambo Mgbowo Autonomous Community, His Royal Highness, Igwe John Azubuike Ibe (Ohabuenyi II), has called on the people of the community to uphold the values of love, peace, unity, hard work and communal responsibility as they observe Aho Eka Okuku, one of the most significant phases of the 2026 Ikeji Mgbowo Annual Festival.

In a goodwill message issued to commemorate the occasion, the monarch congratulated the chiefs, councillors, kindred and family leaders, as well as the entire people of Ekpulambo Mgbowo, for witnessing another edition of the revered cultural festival. He described Ikeji as the community’s foremost traditional celebration, noting that it serves as a time to honour the memories of the ancestors while strengthening the bonds of peace, unity and shared identity among the people.

Igwe Ibe expressed gratitude to God for His continued protection and blessings upon Mgbowo despite prevailing security concerns. He also paid tribute to the ancestors for bequeathing the enduring values of diligence, love, peace, progress and positive ambition that continue to define the community.

The royal father urged residents to remain committed to truth, justice, cooperation and humility, stressing that those blessed with wealth should support the less privileged, while leaders at every level must govern with integrity, humility and accountability.

Speaking on the nation’s current economic and security challenges, Igwe Ibe noted that the prevailing hardship calls for greater compassion, unity and collective responsibility. He urged members of the community to remain vigilant, patriotic and united in safeguarding the peace and security of Mgbowo.

The monarch also raised concerns over the growing menace of alcohol and drug abuse, theft, idleness and indiscipline among youths. He encouraged elders, kindred leaders and stakeholders to make these social issues key agenda items during this year’s Eka Okuku Assembly, emphasizing that meaningful dialogue and collective action are essential to preserving the values and future of the community.

While commending the people for their collective progress and resilience, Igwe John Azubuike Ibe congratulated all sons and daughters of Ekpulambo Mgbowo on the celebration of Aho Eka Okuku and the 2026 Ikeji Festival, praying for God’s continued blessings, peace and prosperity upon the community.
