Awgunta, Obeagu stakeholders rally behind chairman’s second-term bid as APC intensifies grassroots mobilisation ahead of September 26 polls
The campaign for the September 26, 2026 local government elections is gathering momentum in Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State, with community and political stakeholders in Awgunta and Obeagu rallying behind the second-term bid of the Executive Chairman, Hon. Uchenna Joseph Okolo, as the All Progressives Congress (APC) deepens its grassroots mobilisation across the council area.

Okolo led the APC campaign train to the two communities on the fourth day of the party’s campaign tour, drawing community leaders, political stakeholders, women, youths, party faithful and supporters to the various campaign engagements.
The campaign focused on Okolo’s second-term bid, the APC’s candidates in the forthcoming elections and the party’s call for political unity, continuity and sustained development at the grassroots.
At Awgunta Primary School, the programme opened with a prayer led by Chief Godwin Orji, followed by goodwill messages and addresses from political and community leaders.
Among those who spoke were Hon. Oliver Onwu, Chief Oforbuike, Hon. Tobies Chukwu, Hon. Charles Nmeh, Hon. Tony Nwankwo, Hon. Okey Udeh and Hon. Kenechukwu Okolo.
The stakeholders endorsed Okolo’s second-term ambition and pledged to work for the success of the APC candidates in the September 26 election.
They also declared their backing for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The speakers called for greater political cohesion, effective grassroots mobilisation and sustained cooperation between communities and government, stressing that development at the local level required active participation from the people.
The campaign train subsequently moved to Obeagu Ward, where party faithful, women and youth groups, community leaders and other political stakeholders turned out to receive the APC delegation.
Among those present were Dr. David Eze Okeafor, Ogbuefi Paul Sunday Uzochukwu, Hon. Jude Anioke, Chief Andason Okeke, Hon. Mrs. Roseline Udeh and Hon. Tochukwu Chukwu.
The Obeagu engagement further reinforced the campaign’s focus on grassroots mobilisation, with stakeholders calling for continued political participation and a sustained connection between government and the communities.
Speaking at the gathering, Hon. Tochukwu Chukwu commended what he described as the developmental efforts of the current administration.
He called for greater political engagement and continuity in governance, while advocating a more inclusive approach to addressing the needs and aspirations of communities at the grassroots.
Responding to the messages from the communities, Chairman Okolo thanked the people of Awgunta and Obeagu for their warm reception and appealed for continued cooperation with his administration and the APC.
He also called on the people to support President Tinubu, Governor Mbah and other APC candidates, while highlighting what he described as the achievements of the Enugu State Government.
Okolo particularly praised Governor Mbah’s administration, describing its infrastructural development drive as “radical” and the governor’s leadership as exceptional.
He said the scale of development initiatives being implemented across Enugu State had, in his assessment, provided compelling reasons for continued confidence in the governor’s administration and the APC.
According to the chairman, the people of Awgu would continue to identify with Mbah’s development agenda and support initiatives aimed at advancing the state.
Okolo also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to good governance and inclusive development in Awgu, promising to maintain engagement with communities in identifying and addressing their developmental priorities.
The chairman further stressed the importance of political stability and continuity in governance, arguing that sustained leadership would help consolidate ongoing development efforts across Awgu.
“Unity and continuity are key to development,” Okolo said, urging residents to remain peaceful and united throughout the electoral period.
He encouraged residents to participate actively and responsibly in the democratic process, stressing that meaningful development could only be achieved through sustained cooperation between government and the people.
He added that continuity in governance would enable the administration to build on existing programmes and pursue long-term development objectives without unnecessary disruption.
The Awgunta and Obeagu campaign stops are part of the APC’s wider grassroots mobilisation strategy across Awgu Local Government Area ahead of the September 26 polls.
With the campaign now moving deeper into the communities, the party has placed development, continuity, unity and grassroots participation at the centre of its message.
The political atmosphere across Awgu is expected to become increasingly competitive as the election draws closer, with parties and candidates stepping up engagements with communities and mobilising support across the various wards.
For the APC, the Awgunta and Obeagu outings provided another opportunity to consolidate its grassroots structure while advancing Okolo’s second-term campaign and the party’s broader political agenda in Awgu.
