AWGU 2026: CAMPAIGN COUNCIL REVISES SCHEDULE FOLLOWING NNEWENTA LANDSLIDE TRAGEDY

The Campaign Council for the 2026 Awgu Local Government Area Chairmanship and Councillorship Elections has announced adjustments to its campaign schedule following the tragic landslide incident that occurred in Nnewenta Community on September 18, 2026, reportedly claiming about five lives.

In a statement issued by the Director-General of the Campaign Council, Okey Nathan Udeh, the council said the decision to alter the schedule was taken in consideration of the mood of the people and as a mark of respect and honour to the victims of the tragedy.

Consequently, campaign activities earlier scheduled to hold in communities within the Anike Development Area — Ezere, Nkwe, Eziobu Ugwueme and Aguluese Ugwueme — have been placed on hold until further notice.

REVISED CAMPAIGN SCHEDULE

Campaign activities will now resume on Monday, September 21, 2026, as follows:

  • Ugwulesi Community — 12:30 p.m. at Community School, Awgu.
  • Adoagbolato/Ogboli/Ohaja Communities — 2:00 p.m. at Central School, Awgu.
  • Ugbokpala/Ugbonabo/Ngene Ugbo Communities — 3:30 p.m. at Civic Centre, Ugbonabo.

GRAND FINALE

The campaign will climax on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, with the Grand Finale covering:

Akanwu Agbogugu, Obom Agbogugu, Obidoakpu Agbogugu and Eziama Agbogugu Communities

Time: 12:30 p.m.
Venue: Central School, Agbogugu.

The Campaign Council expressed its sincere apologies to supporters and residents of all affected communities for the inconvenience caused by the unforeseen adjustment.

It further appreciated the people for their understanding, solidarity and continued support, while commiserating with the families and community affected by the Nnewenta tragedy.
