…Movement Backs Ogbuekwe, Ogbodo, Other APC Candidates Ahead of Saturday’s Poll
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!The Ije Awele Movement on Thursday joined thousands of All Progressives Congress (APC) supporters, party leaders and stakeholders at the party’s grand rally across Nkanu East and Nkanu West Local Government Areas, declaring its support for Governor Peter Mbah and the APC candidates ahead of Saturday’s September 26 local government elections.
The movement, led by its Director-General, Hon. Kingsley Ezinwa, participated actively in the rally as the APC intensified its final mobilisation across the two local government areas.
A major highlight of the rally was the presentation of the APC flag to the party’s Nkanu East chairmanship candidate, Hon. Engr. Mike Chikosolu Ogbuekwe, popularly known as “Mmirioma Na Nkanu,” at Amagunze, headquarters of Nkanu East.
Ogbuekwe received the party flag amid cheers from a large crowd of supporters and residents, subsequently waving it to the enthusiastic gathering as the campaign entered its final hours.
The Ije Awele Movement, which has consistently mobilised support around the APC platform in Nkanu East, joined the rally in solidarity with Governor Peter Mbah, Ogbuekwe, Nkanu West chairmanship candidate Chief John Ogbodo and other APC candidates contesting the Saturday election.
Speaking at the rally, Governor Mbah urged APC supporters to vote for the party’s candidates across the various positions, warning against what he described as attempts to encourage voters to split their votes among different political parties.
“Let no one lie to you. Let no one deceive you about splitting your votes by voting different candidates of different political parties for different positions. It is all lies. Vote APC all the way, from top to bottom. There is no room for vote sharing,” Mbah said.
The governor also highlighted the administration’s development programmes across Enugu State, particularly investments in roads, Smart Green Schools and Type-2 Primary Healthcare Centres, stressing the need for sustainable development to reach communities at the grassroots.
He further charged prospective local government leaders to prioritise projects such as rural roads, boreholes and healthcare facilities that directly affect the people.
At the rally, the Chairman of Nkanu East Local Government Area and Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Hon. Sydney Okechukwu Edeh, welcomed Governor Mbah and the APC leadership to the council area and reaffirmed his support for the party and the administration.
In Nkanu West, the council chairman, Chief John Ogbodo, commended Governor Mbah for the development projects being executed across the council, including the Smart Green Schools initiative.
The member representing Nkanu East/Nkanu West Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Nnoli Nnaji, also commended the governor’s development efforts and highlighted interventions by federal lawmakers from Enugu East Senatorial District, including electricity transformers provided to the 14 wards in Nkanu East.
The rally attracted the Senator representing Enugu East Senatorial District, Senator Kevin Chukwunwike; APC Deputy National Chairman, South, Dr. Ben Nwonye; South-East APC Zonal Woman Leader, Dr. Oby Ajih; APC Enugu State Chairman, Dr. Martin Chukwunwike; members of the National and State Assemblies; local government chairmen, party leaders, candidates and supporters.
Representing the Ije Awele Movement at the rally were the Director-General, Hon. Kingsley Ezinwa; Secretary, Hon. Ndubueze Ogbonna; Media and Publicity Director, Hon. Okpara A. Obinna; Coordinator, Youth Wing, Hon. Ifeanyi Ezeagu; Hon. Atuogu Stanley, Coordinator Isi-uzo; Cynthia Idenyi; Timothy Egbo; Onwa Sandra; Chizoba Nome, alongside other members of the movement.
The movement’s presence underscored its continued grassroots engagement and support for the APC campaign as the party concluded its major mobilisation activities in Nkanu East and Nkanu West.
With the September 26 election only hours away, the Ije Awele Movement reaffirmed its alignment with the party’s candidates, particularly Governor Peter Mbah, Engr. Mike Ogbuekwe, Hon. John Ogbodo and other APC candidates, as political activities entered their final stretch across the two local government areas.
