Ngwu made the renewed appeal on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, as the Senate resumed plenary following its annual recess, urging the relevant authorities to provide immediate relief and support to residents and communities affected by the flooding.

The senator expressed concern over the impact of the disaster on his constituents, particularly the loss of livelihoods, damage to property and disruption of economic and social activities.

He called for urgent measures to mitigate the effects of the flooding and provide assistance to affected residents, stressing the need for coordinated intervention by relevant federal agencies.

Ngwu also reiterated his longstanding call for the Federal Government to complete the abandoned Ivo River Dam project, which he described as a critical infrastructure intervention capable of addressing recurring flooding in the area.

According to him, completing the dam would not only help mitigate the immediate threat posed by flooding but could also provide a more sustainable solution to the recurring challenge and help protect communities in the affected areas from future disasters.

The senator urged the Federal Government and relevant agencies to treat the situation with urgency and take concrete steps to safeguard lives, property and livelihoods in Aninri and other vulnerable communities.
