The First Lady of Enugu State, Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah, has extended support to Mrs. Gertrude Anulika Eloke, popularly known as Mama Wetuolu Chukwu Obi, from Ukehe in Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area, following an emotional experience at her husband’s recent Ozo title-taking ceremony.

Mrs. Eloke reportedly broke down in tears after being excluded by her stepchildren from the recognition and honour accorded to her co-wife during the traditional ceremony. The incident reportedly brought renewed attention to the emotional challenges and stigma she has endured over her inability to have children.

Moved by her plight, Mrs. Mbah, through her foundation, Custos Care Foundation, reached out to the woman with material and financial assistance as a demonstration of compassion and solidarity.

The intervention included food items, wrappers for making outfits and a cash gift intended to encourage her, restore her spirits and reassure her of her worth and dignity.

Sharing the development on her social media handle, the First Lady emphasised that no woman should be treated as inferior or denied respect because of her personal circumstances, stressing that every woman deserves honour, dignity and acceptance.

She further reaffirmed her commitment, through the Custos Care Foundation, to advocating against gender-based violence, supporting vulnerable women and giving a voice to those whose experiences and challenges are often overlooked.

The gesture underscores the importance of compassion, inclusion and respect for women’s dignity, particularly in situations where social and family circumstances expose them to emotional distress.
