
The Enugu State Ministry of Health has issued an urgent response to the recent cholera outbreak in Nigeria, which has also affected Enugu State. The Ministry wishes to inform the public that cholera is a highly contagious disease spread through contaminated food or water, causing acute watery diarrhea, vomiting, and abdominal cramps that can be fatal within hours if left untreated.

To combat the outbreak, the Ministry urges the public to be vigilant and adhere to the following preventive measures:
– Practice good hand hygiene by washing hands regularly with soap and running water or using hand sanitizers.
– Use potable water from reliable sources.
– Intensify safe practices of food handling and preparation hygiene.
– Use gloves and face masks when caring for sick individuals.
– Report immediately any sudden case of watery diarrhea to the nearest healthcare facility.
