…”Gov Mbah has given us the mindset of thinking outside the box” -Ag Rector, Dr Patrick Ejim
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! The Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu, has achieved a significant milestone with the unveiling of a cutting-edge drilling and cutting robot. Designed by IMT’s Department of Mechanical Engineering, this innovative robot boasts impressive features, making it perfect for hazardous environments.
Inspired by Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s focus on transformative technology, IMT’s Acting Rector, Dr. Emeka Patrick Ejim, expressed gratitude for the governor’s progressive influence. “We thank God for the executive governor of Enugu State, His Excellency Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, for giving us this disruptive mindset of thinking outside the box,” Dr. Ejim remarked.
The robot’s advanced functionality includes precision and range, versatile mobility, and remote operation. Its features enable work on various materials at different angles, stability and adaptability in challenging terrains, and safe operation from a distance.
IMT’s collaboration with the Scientific Equipment Development Institute (SEDI) aims to refine and enhance the robot’s capabilities. SEDI’s expertise in designing and manufacturing affordable scientific and industrial equipment will be instrumental in taking the robot from an experimental prototype to a fully operational tool.
According to Dr. Ejim, the partnership with SEDI will enhance the prototype’s effectiveness and extend its application to meet industrial standards. “SEDI has demonstrated that Nigeria has the capability to manufacture a wide range of scientific equipment locally at affordable prices.”
The Head of the Engineering Department at IMT, Dr. Tim Adibe, expressed excitement over the unveiling and partnership. “The introduction of this robot is a pivotal moment for IMT and the Engineering Department. It symbolizes our commitment to practical education and technological growth.”
With Governor Mbah’s vision of transforming Enugu into a center of technological excellence, IMT is poised to become a pioneering force in Nigeria’s technological landscape. This achievement reflects IMT’s commitment to producing homegrown solutions addressing pressing industry needs.
Dr. Ejim emphasized that IMT’s new focus on practical, hands-on education aims to instill creativity and problem-solving skills in students, preparing them for tomorrow’s workforce. The unveiling highlighted IMT’s objective to address key safety concerns within the construction and demolition industries.
By creating advanced remote-control functions and improving material-handling accuracy, IMT and SEDI are poised to develop a next-generation robot reducing accidents in high-risk environments. Leveraging high-quality aluminum alloys and advanced power mechanisms, the robot withstands extreme forces while maintaining control and stability.
IMT’s commitment to Governor Mbah’s vision is evident in its pursuit of technological excellence. With a shared goal to produce industry-relevant technologies, IMT lays the foundation for future engineers and innovators equipped with the mindset to think beyond conventional boundaries.
