Renowned social critic, Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has tendered an unreserved apology to the Nigeria Police Force for donning a police uniform in one of his recent videos.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! The controversy began when VeryDarkMan wore a police uniform and jokingly introduced himself as a “Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) of the Online Division” in the video. This prompted the police to condemn his unauthorized use of the uniform and initiate an investigation, as reported by Vanguard earlier this week.
Following the backlash, VeryDarkMan released a video on Thursday apologizing for his actions. “I didn’t intend to impersonate the police in any way and I tender my unreserved apologies to the Nigeria Police Force and the office of the Inspector General of Police,” he stated.
In his apology, VeryDarkMan also advised Nigerians to seek proper authorization before wearing police attire to avoid misunderstandings or legal repercussions. “Always seek permission from the police or other law enforcement agencies before using anything that might look like their uniform,” he urged.
The social critic’s apology comes after a visit to the police station, where he was interrogated regarding the controversial video. VeryDarkMan expressed gratitude to his lawyer, Adeyanju Deji, for providing support during the ordeal.
“I was interrogated at the police station based on the post I made wearing a costume that the police claim is similar to theirs,” VeryDarkMan explained. “I want to use this medium to tell the general public to always seek permission from the police or other law enforcement agencies before using anything that might seem impersonating.”
