Speaking to the Akpor Unity Forum, a socio-political group in Obio/Akpor Local Government, Ihunwo emphasized the importance of unity and loyalty among Fubara’s supporters. “I know that some of the people currently supporting His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara will ditch us before the next general elections in 2027, maybe for some personal and selfish reasons, but I urge you all to remain firm and loyal to my leader because his priority is Rivers State and her people,” he stated.

Ihunwo also assured the group that his administration would carry them along in the council’s activities, including appointments and committee memberships aimed at enhancing development in the Local Government Area.

The leader of Akpor Unity Forum, Chikordi Dike, congratulated Ihunwo on his election victory, describing it as the people’s mandate. Dike expressed confidence in Ihunwo’s leadership and appreciated the council boss for appointing sons and daughters of Akpor Kingdom to his team. “You have already done a lot for our persons, but like Oliver Twist, we ask for more in terms of appointments. As a group, we are happy to work with you and our dear Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, and will always stand firm on his ideals,” he said.

The 2027 elections are shaping up to be a fierce battle for Rivers State, with Fubara’s re-election bid hanging in the balance. Will Ihunwo’s call for unity and loyalty be enough to secure Fubara’s victory, or will the challenges ahead prove too great to overcome? Only time will tell.
