The soldiers stationed at the community which borders Enugu State and Benue were withdrawn on eve of the planned #End bad governance protest and were not brought back afterwards as promised by the authorities.

Professor Nnamchi’s call for the redeployment of the military personnel to the troubled community followed the resurgence of the banditry attacks at the weekend which led to the brutal hacking of three farmers to death with several others wounded and are battling for lives in private hospitals in Enugu.

He recalled that bandits who usually posed or suspected to be herdsmen had in past five years killed over two hundred constituents and sacked about seven villages with houses and properties worth millions burnt down in his constituency.

He regretted that these attacks were always targeted towards the harvest season and the Christmas period when many indigenes usually return home for celebrations adding, “it is also the period these bandits target and kidnap some returnees for ransom “

According to him. “the seriousness of the security situation in Eha-Amufu prompted the late Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja to approve the citing of an Army barrack at the border community after visiting Enugu State to access the security situation earlier this year”.

Professor Nnamchi further appealed to the Acting Army Chief of Staff to expedite action towards the building of the barrack in Eha-Amufu while ensuring that military personnel were immediately redrafted to the community to restore peace.

He also appealed to Federal Government to provide relief materials and adequate compensation to the victims for the lost properties especially the large rice farms that have been eaten up by the evading herders’ cattle.
