This decision followed a motion of urgent importance titled “Condemnation of Banditry Attacks on Farmers in Mgbuji, Eha-Amufu, Enugu State and the Recent Withdrawal of Deployed Soldiers Maintaining Peace in The Community” presented by Hon. Professor Paul Sunday Nnamchi, representing Enugu East/Isi Uzo Federal Constituency.
The House has also mandated its committees on Army and National Security to engage the COAS and other relevant security agencies to ensure the immediate redeployment of troops to the troubled area. Furthermore, they are to develop a comprehensive plan to address security challenges in other parts of the Enugu East/Isi Uzo Federal Constituency.
Additionally, the House called on the Federal Government to intensify efforts in addressing the root causes of banditry and insecurity challenges in the southeast region. This includes improved intelligence gathering, community engagement, and enhanced coordination among security agencies.
The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) have been urged to provide relief materials and support to displaced persons and victims of the attack. Professor Nnamchi emphasized that Eha-Amufu and other areas within the Enugu East/Isi Uzo Federal Constituency have faced repeated violent attacks, threatening food security in the constituency, southeast, and Nigeria.
The lawmaker stressed that the recent withdrawal of deployed soldiers from the area has created a vacuum, allowing bandits to wreak havoc on innocent citizens. He appealed to the House to take urgent action to address the situation and prevent further loss of lives and property.
The House’s resolution is a response to the growing concerns about the security situation in Eha-Amufu and other parts of Enugu State. The call for the redeployment of soldiers and the provision of relief materials to affected communities is a step towards addressing the humanitarian crisis in the area.
