This announcement was made through his Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor, on his Facebook page. According to the statement, the bonus is set to be paid before 1 p.m. on Tuesday, December 17.
This is not the first time Governor Nwifuru has shown his appreciation for state civil servants. Last December, he was one of the three governors who gave N100,000 to state civil servants to help cushion the effects of the fuel subsidy. The other two governors were from Lagos and Rivers States.
Local government workers in the 13 local council areas are also expecting a similar bonus, having received N50,000 last Christmas.
In a related development, Governor Nwifuru had in November announced the approval of the payment of N75,000 minimum wage, above the federal government-approved N70,000 new wage, to civil servants in the state. This decision was made after a careful review of the current economic situation in the country, especially as it affects the workforce.
According to Governor Nwifuru, the least paid Civil Servant on grade level 2 will enjoy a full minimum wage of N75,000 while from grade level 3 and above will get an increment of 40,000 across the board.
This move by Governor Nwifuru is a clear demonstration of his commitment to the welfare of state workers and his determination to improve their standard of living.
