The President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Nze Ozichukwu Fidelis Chukwu, has emphasized the need for quality leadership in the Igbo nation. In his inaugural meeting with the National Executive Committee (NEC) on December 15, 2024, Chukwu urged the Igbo people to elect only exceptional individuals with outstanding pedigree to the NEC on January 10, 2025.
He highlighted the importance of leadership recruitment, citing the success of the Dr. M. I. Okpara regime, which propelled the Igbo to become one of the most educated ethnic groups in Africa. Chukwu lamented the current state of affairs, where the Igbo rely heavily on external sources for agricultural produce and face numerous challenges, including extortionate checkpoints and dwindling cultural heritage.
To address these issues, Chukwu emphasized the need for youth empowerment, good governance, and collective effort. He also stressed the importance of releasing Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, citing it as a moral burden on the federal government.
Chukwu directed the states’ representatives in the NEC to nominate individuals with integrity and character for the election committee. He also tasked the NEC to engage more with Town Unions, Market Associations, and Diaspora communities.
The meeting demonstrated Ohanaeze Ndigbo’s determination to reposition the Igbo nation for greatness. With the January 10, 2025 elections approaching, Chukwu urged all Igbo sons and daughters to remain united and focused, working towards a common goal of advancing the Igbo nation.
