The distribution, which is part of the council’s efforts to complement the Enugu State government’s initiatives in addressing the rising cost of food items, saw the chairman handing out essential items such as rice, beans, spaghetti, noodles, vegetable oil, and clothes to the beneficiaries.

In addition to the food and household items, Hon. Edeh also provided grants to students and youths to assist parents with financial burdens as schools reopen.

While addressing the crowd, Hon. Edeh emphasized the importance of unity and complementing government efforts at the state level. He noted that the gesture was aimed at fostering unity among the people and cushioning the effects of the challenging economic period.

“It is important for us at the local government level to complement the efforts of government at the state level to bring succour to our people. That’s the reason we have decided to put in place various measures to cushion the effect of this challenging period, which no doubt will foster unity among the people,” he stated.

Hon. Edeh also called on well-meaning individuals and philanthropists to contribute to the efforts of the council in meeting the needs of the people, stressing that government alone cannot do it.
The distribution of palliative items is not an isolated incident, as Hon. Edeh’s administration had previously distributed food items to stakeholders and communities in Nkanu East during the Christmas celebration.
Beneficiaries of the palliative items expressed their gratitude to the chairman, praising his commitment to bettering the lives of the less privileged.
The chairman was accompanied by the Deputy Chairman of Nkanu East LGA, Hon. Paul Okwor, former Secretary to Nkanu East, Hon. Nnaemeka Nnamene, and Hon. Azubuike Okoh, among other dignitaries.
The distribution of palliative items is expected to bring relief to the residents of Nkanu East, who have been affected by the rising cost of food items and other essential commodities.
