According to a statement from the Presidency, Eta’s appointment takes immediate effect. Eta, a seasoned politician and strategist, previously served as the acting national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the Muhammadu Buhari administration.

Eta’s resume also includes stints as the National Vice Chairman (South-South) of the APC and a Director in the party’s 2023 Presidential Campaign Council. As the new NYSC board chair, Eta is expected to leverage his experience and advocacy for progressive policies to drive innovation, efficiency, and expanded opportunities for Nigerian youths within the NYSC program.

The NYSC National Governing Board, which Eta will now lead, is the scheme’s highest policy-making body, responsible for setting its strategic direction. The board’s membership includes representatives from the federal government, state governments, and other stakeholders.

Eta’s appointment has been widely welcomed by stakeholders, who expressed optimism that his leadership would bring significant benefits to the NYSC program and Nigerian youths.

Industry experts believe that Eta’s appointment is a strategic move by the Tinubu administration to revamp the NYSC program and make it more relevant to the needs of modern Nigerian youths.

“With Eta at the helm, we can expect a more dynamic and innovative approach to youth development in Nigeria,” said a youth development expert, who preferred to remain anonymous. “This appointment is a clear indication that the Tinubu administration is committed to empowering Nigerian youths and setting them up for success.”

As the NYSC program continues to play a critical role in shaping the lives of Nigerian youths, all eyes will be on Eta and the National Governing Board as they work to implement a new vision for the scheme.
