According to Prof. Ndubueze Mbah, the Enugu State Commissioner for Education, the state government is eager to partner with the French Embassy to train and recruit French teachers, as part of its efforts to revamp the education sector.
The proposed partnership is expected to focus on a pilot project aimed at training 150 teachers nationwide, with Enugu being one of the select states. The training will emphasize personalized student-centered pedagogy, communication-focused language acquisition, and practical and linguistic training.
Prof. Mbah noted that the project aligns with Enugu State’s Experiential Learning reform, which aims to provide students with hands-on learning experiences. However, he emphasized that the state requires more French teachers, proposing a need for 520 well-trained teachers for the basic education sector and an additional 400 for the senior secondary sector.
The commissioner encouraged the French Embassy delegates to leverage the Enugu Smart Green School ecosystem to advance French language education in Nigeria. This partnership aims to not only enrich the educational landscape but also foster stronger cultural ties between nations.
The French Embassy team expressed enthusiasm for the proposed partnership, noting that it reflects a deep commitment to advancing the French language and culture in Enugu state.
