Despite his ouster, Obasa has vehemently insisted that he remains the Speaker, dismissing the allegations against him as baseless.
The Assembly Complex was cordoned off by security personnel, with journalists and visitors subjected to rigorous screening before being granted entry. The heavy security presence underscored the tense atmosphere surrounding the leadership change.
Meranda’s assumption of office was marked by a prayer session, where supporters gathered to offer prayers and well-wishes for her success. The new Speaker has already presided over two sittings of the House, with Obasa conspicuously absent from both sessions.
The former Speaker has challenged the lawmakers to substantiate their claims, maintaining that his removal was unconstitutional. The standoff between Obasa and the House members has sparked intense debate, with many calling for a resolution to the crisis.
