The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, has emphasized the need for Nigeria to harness technology to drive its transformation from a state of crisis to one of prosperity.

Speaking at the Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna, during the institution’s convocation ceremony, Speaker Abbas noted that Nigeria’s growth and development are inextricably linked to its ability to leverage technology.
“In an age characterized by rapid technological advancements, it is imperative for Nigeria to seize opportunities for growth and innovation,” he said. “By strategically adopting and implementing technological solutions, the nation can effectively confront pressing challenges, stimulate economic development, and improve the overall quality of life for its citizens.”
The Speaker also highlighted the importance of empowering young Nigerians, describing them as “invaluable assets” to the nation. He encouraged them to utilize digital tools for personal development and entrepreneurial ventures.
However, Speaker Abbas also decried the declining quality of graduates from Nigerian universities, attributing it to systemic issues such as inadequate funding, poor lecturer-to-student ratios, and unethical practices.
To address these challenges, the Speaker called for increased funding for higher education, improved remuneration for academic staff, and expanded opportunities for professional development.
He also commended the Nigerian government’s initiatives to support young innovators, promoting technological advancement through funding, mentorship programs, and innovation platforms.
The Speaker’s remarks come as Nigeria prepares for the 2027 general elections, with various political parties and alliances beginning to take shape.
As the country navigates its complex political landscape, Speaker Abbas’ emphasis on technology-driven transformation and youth empowerment is seen as a timely call to action for Nigeria’s leaders.
