The Enugu State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure has issued a public service announcement warning citizens of an impersonation scam targeting unsuspecting members of the public.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!According to a statement signed by Ngozi Ngene, Public Relations Officer of the Ministry, a scammer identified as Lekan Itunu on TrueCaller has been impersonating the Honourable Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure. The scammer uses phone number 08036620427 and displays the Commissioner’s and Governor’s pictures on his WhatsApp profile.
The scammer is falsely claiming that the State Government is launching a mass housing scheme and is asking interested contractors and buyers to pay money into an FCMB account with the name Okeke George and account number 1027235186.
The Ministry is urging citizens to exercise caution and conduct due diligence to confirm the authenticity of such projects before making any payments. The security agencies are currently investigating the matter to apprehend the fraudster.
“We advise the public to be wary of such scams and to always verify information before making any payments,” Ngene said in the statement. “We are working closely with the security agencies to apprehend the perpetrator and bring them to justice.”
