
Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to release detained IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, citing the need to address insecurity and promote development in the South-East.

“We appeal to Mr. President to temper justice with mercy. A political solution to this issue will bring stability and allow the South-East to thrive,” Kalu stated.
Hon. Chris Nkwonta, Chairman of the House Committee on the South East Development Commission, echoed Kalu’s sentiments, stressing that Kanu’s detention has exacerbated tensions and hindered progress in the region.
Senator Ebenezer Ikeyina and Comrade Mark Iheanyi also lent their voices to the call for Kanu’s release, emphasizing the need for swift action to prevent further deterioration of the situation.
