
In a significant development, Kenneth Okonkwo, the former spokesperson for the Labour Party’s presidential campaign council, has tendered his resignation from the party. Okonkwo’s decision comes amidst internal and leadership crises that have plagued the party.

The renowned Nollywood actor cited the party’s internal disputes and leadership issues as the primary reasons for his exit.
Okonkwo, who served as the LP campaign spokesperson during the 2023 presidential election, emphasized that his foray into politics was driven by a desire for good governance. However, he lamented that the Labour Party, as currently constituted, is no longer a viable platform for achieving this goal.
“I am constrained to resign my membership of the party,” Okonkwo stated. “This aim can no longer be realised within Labour Party as presently constituted.”
Okonkwo expressed his gratitude to Nigerians who supported the party during the presidential election and pledged his continued loyalty to the Nigerian people. He also hinted at joining another political movement, stating that he will be “at liberty to join other well-meaning and like-minded Nigerians in charting a great future of good governance for this great country blessed by God.”
Okonkwo’s resignation is a significant blow to the Labour Party, which has struggled to maintain momentum since the 2023 presidential election. As the party navigates its internal crisis, the loss of key members like Okonkwo may further exacerbate its challenges.
