The Anambra State Government has sealed a shrine in Umuofor village, Okija, Ihiala Local Government Area, allegedly used for illicit rituals aimed at supernaturally enriching individuals.

The shrine, reportedly operated by one Ekene Igboegbueze, was shut down by the government following complaints from the people of Okija and a viral online video showing Igboegbueze boasting about his involvement in Oke Ite, Yahoo Plus, and Awele rituals.

According to Mr. Ken Emeakai, Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Community Security, the government’s action was prompted by Igboegbueze’s contravention of Anambra State’s Homeland Security Laws.

“The state government has sealed the shrine and all properties acquired by Igboegbueze with the proceeds of his alleged illegal activities,” Emeakai said. “All items found in the shrine will undergo forensic testing, and the outcome will determine the next course of action.”

The Director of Operations for Agunechemba Security Outfit, Mr. Chinenye Ihenko, warned youths to avoid patronizing fake native doctors and pastors who promote a “get-rich-quick” syndrome.

“The activities of these individuals are deceitful and promote a culture of laziness and criminality among our youths,” Ihenko said. “We urge the public to report any suspicious activities to the authorities to help rid our society of these menace.”
