ENSUBEB BOSS PROF. OKIBE SAYS THE BOARD WILL CONTINUE TO GIVE PRIORITY ATTENTION TO TRAINING TEACHERS TO ENHANCE SERVICE DELIVERY

The Executive Chairman of Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board, ENSUBEB Assoc. Prof. Hyginus Banko Okibe has said that the Board will continue to give priority attention to training her teachers to update their knowledge for improved service delivery.

The ENSUBEB Boss stated this while declaring open a five-day 2023-2024 Teachers Professional Development Programme workshop, on school Based Model Training organized by the Board in collaboration with UBEC for Head Teachers and Teachers across all the 17 Local Government Areas of the state.

The Executive Chairman, who was represented by the Director of the School Services Department in the Board, Mrs. Julie Ugwu, said that the training programme became very necessary, especially now the administration of Governor Peter Mbah is transiting from the old method of teaching to technology-based/digital method of teaching and learning.

He reminded the participants that learning is a continuous exercise and urged them to go the extra mile to improve themselves, migrate to SMART School, and seamlessly adapt to the innovative programme of the state government in the education sector or lose out.

Assoc. Prof. Okibe stated that the teaching job is no longer business as usual but business unusual since the government has devised means to monitor the way and manner they discharge their duties, adding that any act of negligence to duty will not be tolerated.

In his speech, the Coordinator of Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) Enugu State, Mr. Innocent Onyeabor, urged the participants to take the training programme seriously to be able to benefit from it and also improve themselves in their own interests.

Mr. Onyeabor told them that it takes more than hearing to be a participant and added that active participation is very necessary to be able to benefit and also justify the huge investment made by UBEC and ENSUBEB for the training workshop.

Also in his speech, the Head of Department of training in the Board, Barr. Andrew Nwani said that the aim of the training workshop was to improve the professionalism of the teachers to enhance their service delivery and not the monetary gains attached to it.

Barr. Nwani reminded the participants that they were carefully selected for the workshop and encouraged them to pay serious attention to their facilitators and learn what would help them develop themselves, cascade the same down to their colleagues and also to the classrooms to better the lots of the children.

According to him, “Let the workshop be relevant to you. I encourage you to do your best so that our children will benefit more; our Local Government, the Board, Enugu State, UBEC and Nigeria will also benefit and together we will achieve success in our basic education sector”.

The Desk Officer Teacher Professional Development (TPD) unit in the Board, Mrs. Benedette Ezeugwu, appreciated the administration of Governor Peter Mbah for its special interest in the welfare of teachers, especially with their inclusion in the new minimum wage and payment of leave allowance, among others.

Mrs. Ezeugwu also thanked the Board Chairman, Assoc. Prof. Okibe for all the necessary support and encouragement to ensure the success of the workshop and urged participants to brace up with the discharge of their duties, carry parents along in the scheme of things, and remain friendly with their pupils.

The Education Secretary Enugu North Main, Dame Nkechi Ugwu, welcomed the participants, wished them success, and urged them not to be left out in the scheme of things but to continue to work hard to align with the unavoidable changes in the system.

The training is part of a priority area where the government of Enugu state is investing huge resources to build sufficient human capital, consolidate sustainable innovation in childcare, and ensure quality basic education delivery in the state.
