
Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State has formally handed over power to his deputy, Dr. Peter Odey, as he embarks on a three-week annual leave. This move marks the governor’s first official leave since assuming office on May 29, 2023.

He stated that he would be unavailable to attend to official duties during his leave, which spans from March 11 to April 8, 2025.
To ensure continuity in governance, Governor Otu assigned his deputy, Dr. Odey, to act on his behalf and make necessary decisions until his return. The State House of Assembly subsequently granted approval for the governor’s leave during a plenary session.
With Governor Otu’s temporary absence, Dr. Odey will oversee governance in Cross River State, handling administrative responsibilities and other official matters. This development is expected to maintain stability in the state’s governance structure until Governor Otu resumes duty.
