The Senate approved the president’s request, invoking its constitutional powers under Section 305 (2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended). Fubara’s suspension is a result of the escalating political tensions in Rivers State, which has been embroiled in a fierce power struggle.

The state’s political instability has led to sharp divisions within the State House of Assembly, with 27 members pledging allegiance to Fubara’s predecessor, Chief Nyesom Wike, and the remaining members declaring their support for Fubara. Amidst this turmoil, Fubara’s relocation to Bayelsa State Government House may be a strategic move to ensure his safety and that of his family.
