Breaking: Nigerian Statesman and Former Governor Passes Away

Chief Omololu Olunloyo, a distinguished Nigerian statesman and former Governor of Oyo State, has passed away at 89, just days shy of his 90th birthday. He died on April 6, 2025, at 1:40 am, leaving behind a legacy of significant contributions to Nigerian politics and academia.

Olunloyo was a multifaceted personality – a mathematician, engineer, and renowned technocrat. His illustrious career saw him hold notable positions, including:

First Rector of Ibadan Polytechnic: He played a pivotal role in shaping the institution’s early years.
First Rector of Kwara State Polytechnic: His leadership and vision helped establish the polytechnic as a reputable institution.
Balogun of Oyo and Otun Bobasewa of Ife: He held traditional titles, reflecting his respected position in his community.
Governor of Oyo State: He served as governor from October to December 1983, making significant contributions to the state’s development.

The Olunloyo family released a statement expressing their “heavy heart but gratitude to the Almighty” for his life. They described him as a devoted servant of God and requested understanding as they make burial arrangements, stating, “Omololu Olunloyo passed on to eternal glory… We thank God for a life well spent.

May the Lord Jesus rest his soul”.

As news spreads, tributes are pouring in, celebrating Olunloyo’s life and achievements. His family and associates mourn his loss, cherishing memories of a dedicated public servant and proud Nigerian.
