According to sources, the screening process involves comprehensive security checks at the Department of State Services (DSS) offices, as well as the submission of detailed records of educational background and work history.

Reports indicate that several notable individuals have undergone screening for potential diplomatic appointments, including former governors Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and Okezie Ikpeazu from the South-East, as well as politicians Shehu Sani and Reno Omokri.

Additionally, former Lagos State Deputy Governor Femi Pedro and former Minister of Aviation Femi Fani-Kayode have reportedly completed the screening process and been cleared for new national assignments.

The development comes after the recall of all Nigerian ambassadors in September 2023, as directed by President Bola Tinubu. Despite initial delays attributed to financial constraints, the presidency has assured that new ambassadors will be announced soon.

The screening process is a crucial step towards reestablishing Nigeria’s diplomatic presence across key international locations, and it is expected that the Federal Government will soon unveil the list of newly appointed diplomats, complete with their designated foreign assignments.
