Other notable nominees are Fola Adeola, founder of Guaranty Trust Bank Plc; former Lagos State deputy governor Femi Pedro; and former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode. These individuals are currently undergoing screening by the Department of State Services (DSS), with the final list expected to be made public soon.

According to sources, the nominees have confirmed their selection, with one of them speaking on condition of anonymity on Sunday ¹. An official from the presidency explained the delay in releasing the list, stating that “only those who have cleared security checks are announced. The process is ongoing, but we expect a list before the end of this month”.

This development comes after Nigeria’s ambassadors were recalled last year without replacement. Presidential aide Bayo Onanuga noted that the nomination process is rigorous and must be completed before any names are forwarded to the National Assembly for confirmation.

The nominees are expected to undergo thorough security checks before the final list is released. Once confirmed, they will take up their roles as ambassadors, representing Nigeria’s interests abroad.
