As the only Nigerian cardinal eligible to vote, Bishop Okpaleke will play a crucial role in shaping the future of the Catholic Church alongside other prominent cardinals from around the world.

The Conclave will take place in the Sistine Chapel, where the cardinals will take an oath of secrecy before casting secret ballots. The voting process will involve up to four rounds of balloting each day, with a two-thirds majority required for a candidate to be elected.

The outcome of the Conclave will be signaled through smoke signals, with black smoke indicating no decision and white smoke signifying the election of a new Pope. Once elected, the new Pope will select a papal name and appear on the balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica, where the announcement “Habemus Papam” (“We have a pope”) will be made.

With over 179 cardinals participating in the General Congregation, the Conclave promises to be a significant event in the history of the Catholic Church. The world will be watching with bated breath as the cardinals deliberate and vote on the next spiritual leader of the Church.
