ENSUBEB BOSS ASSOC. PROF OKIBE FLAGS OFF DISTRIBUTION OF INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS TO SCHOOLS IN THE STATE

The Executive Chairman of Enugu state Universal Basic Education Board (ENSUBEB) Assoc. Professor Hyginus Banko Okibe has commended Federal and Enugu State governments for the priority attention to promoting basic education sector for the betterment of our pupils.

Speaking when he flagged off the distribution of the instructional materials supplied by Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) to public primary schools in Enugu State, Prof. Okibe noted with satisfaction the commitment / special interest of both governments to enhancing / encouraging teaching and learning at all levels in our schools.

He described the consignment of instructional material (text books) supplied to Enugu State by the Commission as practical demonstration of love, show of commitment and support to the state and therefore, thanked the Executive Secretary for his tireless efforts to transform the system and take the Commission to greater heights.

The Executive Chairman, appreciates the Commission for the text books and disclosed that Enugu State government has completed plans to procure more instructional materials to compliment the quantity received to ensure that every child in public schools in the state is not left out.

According to Prof. Okibe, Enugu State government has placed as priority the issue of promoting academic excellence and said, “we cannot advance the issue of teaching and learning without enough instructional materials, our Smart Green Schools cannot thrive effectively without adequate instructional materials to all learners, we are committed to making a difference in our basic education system to compliment the effort of our Governor in this regard.”

He therefore, charged Education Secretaries and Head teachers in the state to ensure that their pupils have access to those instructional materials given to them adding that the culture of packing the books in shelves is over and will no longer be tolerated by the Board. The ENSUBEB Boss, said that the Board will also fight against any barrier to the learning process in the state and challenged the Education Secretaries and Head Teachers to do the needful to deepen reading culture in their pupils. The more our pupils have access to these books and read them very well the more they will improve in literacy and numeracy he said.

Speaking shortly after collecting the instructional materials on behalf of his colleagues, the Dean of Education Secretary in Enugu State, Comrade Egbo Sylvanus, described the essential text books supply to the State by UBEC as morale booster that would help enhance teaching and learning in the state.
Comrade Egbo also expressed gratitude to the State Governor, His Excellency Dr. Peter Mbah, for his determination to transform basic education in Enugu State and promised that Education Secretaries in the state will go the extra mile in the discharge of their duties to encourage teaching and learning in our schools.

Also in her speech the Desk Officer, Instructional Materials Unit of ENSUBEB Mrs. Egbo Ndirika, appealed to the Education Secretaries to take proper care of those instructional materials suplied and ensure that their pupils read them properly to enhance their knowledge.

Mrs. Egbo said that nine Local Government Areas of Enugu East, Nkanu East, Aninri, Awgu, Igbo Eze North, Igbo Etiti, Udi, Uzo Uwani and Isi Uzo as well as 22 Development Centers in the State benefited from the 2023 instructural materials distributed. She also stated that instructional materials (text books) distributed include English Language, Mathematics, Basic Science and Technology, Computer Science and National Values books 1 to 3 among others.
