
The Cleaning Practitioners Association of Nigeria (CPAN) South East zone has marked its annual week-long celebration from May 23rd to May 31st, 2025, with a cleanliness campaign that traversed key locations in Enugu State. The event, which kicked off at Okpara Square and culminated at the Ebeano tunnel, aimed to promote environmental cleanliness and sustainability.

Prof. Sam C. Ugwu, Honourable Commissioner for the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change in Enugu State, was emphatic in his call for the public to heed the call for environmental cleanliness, stressing that it is part of the state government’s mandate. He commended the CPAN coordinator for the South East, Mrs. Nkem Okoye, for organizing the advocacy program and encouraged the people to listen to the ministry’s messages through various media channels.
The Commissioner expressed the Ministry’s willingness to collaborate with eco-friendly associations to ensure environmental cleanliness. “The Ministry is committed to working with all stakeholders to maintain a clean and sustainable environment,” he stated.



Mr. Onaga Richard, General Manager of the Enugu State Waste Management Authority (ESWAMA), praised CPAN members for their sensitization efforts and called on the public to adopt a culture of keeping their environment clean. He also assured that the state government would continue to clean the Ebeano tunnel quarterly, further emphasizing the government’s commitment to environmental cleanliness.


Mrs. Nkem Okoye, CPAN coordinator for the South East, appreciated the collaborations with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, ESWAMA, Fire Service, and the media, which made the event successful. She encouraged people to consider cleaning as a viable career option, highlighting the importance of professionalizing the cleaning industry.


The event highlighted the importance of collective efforts in maintaining a clean and sustainable environment. As the state government continues to prioritize environmental cleanliness, the efforts of CPAN and other stakeholders will undoubtedly contribute to a cleaner and healthier Enugu State.
