Awgunta Community Pays Courtesy Visit to Awgu Council Chairman, Fosters Stronger Ties and Development

In a significant display of unity and appreciation, the Awgunta community paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Chairman of Awgu Local Government, Hon. Uchenna Joseph Okolo, at the Awgu Local Government Council Headquarters on Tuesday, June 10, 2025.

Led by Mr. Emanuel Onyema Ike, President General of the Awgunta Development Union (ADU), the delegation comprised prominent figures, including Chief Dr. Edward Ezekwesili, Hon. Kingsley Mbah, former town union president, Ogbuefi Jerome Ifeka, ADU Secretary, and Mr. Victor Mmadu, ADU Treasurer.

The community leaders expressed profound gratitude to Hon. Okolo for his tireless efforts in enhancing the quality of life for Awgunta residents. They specifically acknowledged his instrumental role in establishing essential social amenities, such as solar-powered boreholes and street lights, which have significantly contributed to the community’s development. The leaders also commended Hon. Okolo’s administration for its commitment to public service, highlighting the positive impact of his initiatives on the community.

During the visit, the community leaders brought to the fore pressing concerns affecting their daily lives. These include the perennial problem of inadequate electricity supply, the scarcity of medical personnel and essential medicines, and the dearth of qualified teachers in local primary schools.

In response, Hon. Okolo reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of all Awgu residents. He emphasized the importance of collaborative governance, stating, “We are resolute in addressing the needs of our people, irrespective of their location. Our mission is to ensure that the visionary goals of our esteemed Governor are realized at the grassroots level.”

The Chairman also pledged to personally visit Awgunta to assess the electricity situation and make arrangements of a reliable power supply.

The community leaders expressed their appreciation for the leadership in Enugu State and Awgu LGA, citing their visionary approach and commitment to human capital development. Hon. Charles Mmeh, Special Senior Assistant to the Executive Chairman and Deputy PG of Awgunta, Commended the government’s initiatives, highlighting the positive impact on the community.

The event culminated in the presentation of gift items, including a live cow from the Awgunta community to Hon. Okolo, symbolizing the trust and confidence that exists between the local government and its constituents.

The Deputy Chairman of Awgu LGA, Dr. Stanley Ezediuto, and the Secretary of the Awgu Local Government Council, Rt. Hon. Nelson Uduji, were among those in attendance, further demonstrating the collaborative spirit of the event.
