In a momentous ceremony held on June 26, 2025, the Faculty of Management Sciences at the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) conferred its prestigious Statesmanship Award on Hon. Uche Joseph Okolo, the Executive Chairman of Awgu Local Government Area, in recognition of his exceptional contributions to human capital development, infrastructure, and philanthropy.

The award presentation, which formed a key highlight of the Faculty’s 2025 International Conference, attracted dignitaries, members of the academia, and stakeholders from across various sectors. The recognition was presented as a testament to Hon. Okolo’s tireless dedication to advancing the welfare of the people of Awgu and beyond through visionary leadership and impactful community-focused programs.

According to the Faculty, Hon. Okolo was selected for the award based on his “consistent record of grassroots development, empowerment of vulnerable groups, promotion of educational access, and unwavering commitment to inclusive governance.”

Since assuming leadership, Hon. Okolo has spearheaded a wide range of transformational initiatives across Awgu LGA. His administration has made remarkable progress in infrastructure development, youth empowerment, and social welfare. Key projects include road construction, school rehabilitation, improved healthcare delivery, and economic empowerment programs—all aimed at improving the quality of life and fostering unity in the community.
While receiving the award, Hon. Okolo expressed deep appreciation to the Faculty of Management Sciences and the ESUT community at large. “This award is not just for me, but for the people of Awgu whom I serve daily with dedication. I am inspired by this recognition to continue pushing for good governance, inclusive growth, and a better future for our communities,” he stated.
He also commended ESUT for its unwavering commitment to shaping future leaders and promoting the ideals of public service through academic excellence and civic engagement.
