The Enugu State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure has unveiled a comprehensive plan to ensure strict compliance with industry standards in all ongoing and future projects across the state. This move underscores the Ministry’s commitment to delivering high-quality infrastructure that meets global benchmarks.

In a recent meeting with key stakeholders, including professional bodies such as the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Nigerian Institute of Architects, and Nigerian Institute of Surveyors, among others, the Honourable Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ben Osy Okoh, emphasized the importance of professionalism and quality assurance in infrastructure development. “This meeting underscores our unwavering commitment to quality assurance and professionalism in all our projects,” he declared.

To achieve this goal, the Ministry has introduced a range of measures, including the requirement for professionals to sign formal undertakings, taking full responsibility for projects associated with their licenses. The Ministry will also upgrade its materials testing laboratories, intensify oversight inspections, and partner with professional bodies for regular training programs and quarterly progress reviews.

In addition, the Ministry has engaged Ette-Aro and Partners, a renowned civil engineering consulting firm, to provide technical support, project supervision, and quality assurance. This move is expected to ensure that all state-funded infrastructure meets international standards.

The Commissioner also revealed plans to introduce dedicated phone lines for reporting substandard work or non-compliance, as well as a review of contractor profiles and procurement processes to ensure that only qualified and well-equipped firms are engaged.

The Enugu State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure’s commitment to quality and professionalism is in line with the visionary leadership of Governor Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, who is driving a modern and smart Enugu. The Ministry’s efforts are expected to transform the state’s infrastructure landscape, ensuring that all projects are executed with the highest level of quality and professionalism.

The meeting with professional bodies ended with a prayer session for the Commissioner, seeking divine protection and success in delivering his transformational vision. The professional bodies, including COREN, NSE, and Nigerian Institute of Town Planners, have pledged their support and cooperation in ensuring that the Ministry’s goals are achieved.
