In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on General Media and Publicity, Hon. Tochukwu Chukwu, the council boss praised the project as “a transformative leap in public sector innovation and urban development,” noting that it reflects the governor’s unwavering commitment to progressive governance.

“Your Excellency Sir, on behalf of my family and the good people of Awgu Local Government Area, I extend our warmest congratulations to you on this momentous occasion. This visionary approach reflects your remarkable leadership and commitment to improving the citizens’ quality of life,” Hon. Okolo said.

Stakeholders have described the project as the first of its kind in Nigeria — an ambitious intervention designed to cut transportation costs, improve security, and attract both local and foreign investment. Hon. Okolo commended Governor Mbah for achieving such a milestone in the transport sector, noting that public servants will be among the major beneficiaries as the initiative will significantly reduce commuting costs. He praised the governor for keeping to his promises of making life more habitable in Enugu and further advocated for the project’s long-term sustainability.

The ambitious transport overhaul will deliver far-reaching benefits, including better connectivity, reduced transportation costs, and enhanced urban mobility. It features a state-of-the-art digital transport management system to boost efficiency, new bus terminals in key hubs such as Holy Ghost, Abakpa, Nsukka, and Gariki, and the deployment of one hundred eco-friendly Compressed Natural Gas buses. The project also includes the construction of eighty new bus stops strategically positioned to ensure safer, more accessible, and user-friendly commuting for residents.

According to Hon. Okolo, the plan goes beyond physical infrastructure, serving as a model for future-focused governance and citizen-centered policy.

“This project is a model for other states. It speaks volumes of Governor Mbah’s bold vision to build a modern, sustainable, and inclusive transport system that works for everyone, from students and traders to professionals and visitors,” he remarked.

He concluded that the launch of the transport system is a testament to the governor’s determination to bridge distances, stimulate economic growth, and deliver world-class infrastructure that will position Enugu State as a leader in modern development in Nigeria.
