
In recognition of his remarkable contributions to engineering, governance, humanitarian service, and community development, African American University has conferred a Doctor of Philosophy Degree, PhD (Honoris Causa) in Disaster Risk Management and Development on Prince Fidelis Chuma Obidinanwa. The prestigious conferment took place on August 23, 2025.

Fondly known as Ugonnanyere Na Mgbidi, Prince Obidinanwa is celebrated as an engineer, entrepreneur, community leader, and philanthropist whose life embodies service, innovation, and compassion.

A graduate of the University of Port Harcourt, he holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Petroleum Engineering and a Master’s degree in Disaster Risk Management and Development Studies. His passion for excellence has also seen him pursue further certifications in disaster management and safety science, broadening his impact in humanitarian response and public health advocacy.

As Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Dephi Global Resources Ltd and Chumob Services Nig. Ltd, Prince Obidinanwa has demonstrated entrepreneurial acumen by transforming his companies into engines of industrial growth, job creation, and corporate social responsibility.


In public service, he distinguished himself as Senior Personal Adviser and Senior Special Assistant to the Executive Chairman of Awgu Local Government Area, where he earned commendations for his role in governance, grassroots mobilization, and youth empowerment. He has equally led his community in various capacities, serving as Chairman of Amorji Mgbidi Development Union and President of Mgbidi Central Union, championing peace, unity, and development.


His humanitarian initiatives span scholarships, rural infrastructure development, healthcare support, and poverty alleviation programs. Notably, during the COVID-19 pandemic, he collaborated with Awgu LGA to deliver palliatives to vulnerable households, underscoring his commitment to human dignity in times of crisis.


Beyond his professional and philanthropic pursuits, Prince Obidinanwa serves as a Justice of the Peace and is an active member of the Knights of St. Mulumba as well as the Ohaneze Ndigbo Political Council. His traditional title, Ugonnanyere Na Mgbidi, reflects his enduring dedication to cultural preservation and community advancement.

African American University, in honoring him with the Doctorate Degree, described Prince Obidinanwa as “an exemplar of scholarship, leadership, and service whose work continues to inspire and transform lives.”
