In a statement issued by the Council, the allegation was described as โa hoax and a scandalous campaignโ deliberately crafted to tarnish the image of the government and misinform the public.

โNo such protest took place in Enugu State. The peaceful atmosphere in Enugu South Local Government Area and across the State remains preserved, with citizens going about their daily activities without disruption,โ the statement read.
The Council further clarified that the matter involving Mr. Ngene is purely a judicial process, stressing that the State Government has neither interfered with nor delayed the ongoing legal proceedings. It warned that any attempt to politicize the matter or incite unrest through fabricated reports would be regarded as reckless, irresponsible, and unacceptable.

โWe urge the public, statesmen, media houses, and the good people of Enugu to disregard this falsehood in its entirety. Enugu State remains committed to the rule of law, peace, and the protection of the democratic process,โ the statement emphasized.
The government also assured residents of its continued dedication to good governance, the welfare of the people, and adherence to the rule of law, while resisting attempts by โpolitical demagogues to create tension where none exists.โ
The Council particularly urged citizens to go about their normal activities as the State plays host to the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Annual General Conference, an event it said must not be distracted by falsehoods.
Highlighting Governor Peter Mbahโs efforts to position Enugu as a major tourism destination, the statement warned against attempts by โpower-seeking detractorsโ to trivialize the Stateโs achievements.
Enugu South Local Government Chairman, Hon. Caleb Ani, reaffirmed that the area remains peaceful and fully supportive of the Governorโs developmental strides.
โIndeed, our tomorrow is here,โ the statement concluded.
